Preview : Samsung Launches Galaxy R Phone in Europe

Samsung Galaxy R largeSamsung's new Galaxy R smartphone is now available in Sweden, with releases in other European and Asian countries coming soon.
Samsung did not offer details on possible North American sales of the new phone, which runs Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system and is powered by Nvidia's dual-core Tegra 2 processor (video below).
"Samsung's newest super phone shows off Tegra's multimedia power, and is a great example of what consumers expect from one of the world's top phone makers," Michael Rayfield, general manager of Nvidia's mobile business, said in a statement.

The Galaxy R has a 4.19-inch touch screen with 800-by-480 resolution and Adobe Flash Player support. Tegra 2 incorporates an Nvidia GeForce GPU for 720p HD video capture and 1080p HD video playback, with Divx, WMV, and MP4 support.
The handset has 8GB of built-in memory and a Micro SD slot supporting 32GB.
The handset also delivers "console-quality gaming," according to Samsung and Nvidia. To that end, users can access Tegra-optimized games for the Galaxy R in the Android Market's Tegra Zone.

While Samsung is promising Galaxy R availability in Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and China, the lack of information about availability elsewhere raises the possibility that Apple's ongoing patent disputes with Samsung and others may be affecting a more global roll-out of the new smartphone.
