Intel and Google in Android chip-making deal

Intel has set up a development partnership with Google to help improve how the Android operating system runs on its processors.
The move is aimed at giving Intel greater access to the fast-growing mobile devices sector.
Intel is the world's biggest chipmaker in the computer and server market.
However, it has so far played second fiddle to Cambridge-based designer ARM Holdings in the market for low power consumption chips.

Review: Pandigital Nova $190 Android Tablet

Earlier this month, Pandigital introduced a new line of tablets based on Google's Android operating system that cost less than $190 each. I've been testing out one of these tablets to get a sense of what consumers can expect. I wasn't impressed. With this tablet, you get what you pay for.

Samsung Galaxy S II VS iPhone 4

Samsung on Sunday confirmed that it will be showing an LTE version of the Galaxy S II smartphone, alone with an LTE Galaxy Tab 8.9, at the IFA show in Berlin this week.
The original Samsung Galaxy S II is widely considered to be the closest competitor to Apple's iPhone 4. Support for the high-speed 4G LTE network means the Galaxy S II will have an automatic leg up on the competition, running at speeds that are two to three times faster than the iPhone 4, which is a 3G device.

New BlackBerry phones will support Android !!

Hit by weakening sales, Research In Motion plans to add Android support to next year's lineup of new BlackBerry smartphones, Bloomberg reported yesterday.

Citing information from "three people familiar with the plan," Bloomberg said that the new Android-compatible phones will run the company's QNX software and debut in early 2012. A story earlier this month from the blog Boy Genius Report said that RIM will launch its first QNX-powered BlackBerry, code-named Colt, during the first quarter of 2012.

The Best Android Apps Of The Week

Pano: It's a panoramic picture taking app for your Android phone. Basically, you snap a series of side-by-side individual shots together and Pano automagically stitches them together to create one super long seamless photo. Hell, you can merge together 16 pictures into one humungo 360 degree photo if you wanted! So yeah, you remember that one time you wanted to capture the entire horizon on the beach? Pano does that.

Report : Android Tablets Steal 20% Of iPad’s Market Share

According to a new report from ABI Research, Android tablets have managed to steal 20 percent of global market share from Apple’s iPad over the last 12 months. Several new Android tablets have been launched this past year, but none have so far been able to differentiate itself enough from the rest of the pack. Hence, no single Android tablet vendor has yet to pose a major threat to the reigning Apple.

Vizio Launches 8-inch Android Tablet For $299

Vizio, based in Irvine, is hoping to do with tablets what its done with TVs -- become a market leader by selling millions of lower-priced units with higher-end features.
But, in typical Vizio fashion, the company is taking an unorthodox approach to just about everything, including the release of the $299.99 Vizio Tablet.

Huawei starts a 3D smartphone

THE 3D TREND is once again being foisted upon punters as Huawei has announced the launch of its first 3D smartphone.
Aptly called Vision, the handset features a 3D user interface and a "carousel display", by which we think Huawei means a revolving set of home page icons, or images, or something. With it Huawei will join the Korean handset maker LG in the 3D smartphone market, which - to be honest - hasn't exactly taken off yet.
Huawei's 3D device runs the Android 2.3 Gingerbread mobile OS and is supported by a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM 8255 processor.

Android Trojan records your calls

Criminals have increased the functionality of Android Trojans with a new strain that is capable of recording, and not just logging, conversations on compromised smartphones.
Previous mobile malware strains for Google's mobile platform had the ability to log the duration and numbers of incoming and outgoing calls. The new malware goes further than this by capturing the content of conversations before storing them on the SD-slot memory card of infected Android phones.

Physical keyboard, Android Os: Motorola Droid 3 Full review

Physical keyboard, but at a price: Motorola Droid 3 review The Motorola Droid line of phones has arguably been one of the most successful to carry Google's Android OS. But the standard Droids are members of an increasingly rare breed—phones that give users the option of a physical keyboard. While the Droid 3 packs some decent internal hardware, most of the commendations belong to its OS, Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Since Gingerbread is available on many other phones that offer a better feature package, the primary reason you'd opt for the Droid 3 is that keyboard. Unfortunately, we found it a bit of a hassle to use, and the phone's lack of 4G and other small problems don't help.

Smartphones 28 % of global market this year

More than 420 million smartphones will be sold worldwide this year, and will account for 28 percent of all cellphone sales, IMS Research says.
Among the reasons for the growth, IMS says: More affordable smartphones coming on the market. By 2016, the firm expects global smartphone sales will reach 1 billion devices, largely because of more affordable, entry-level handsets.
Apple's iPhone, while not entry-level — although such a version has been bandied about — did account for 19 percent of global smartphone sales in the first quarter of this year, compared to 16 percent in the first quarter of 2010, IMS said.

AT&T Android users can breathe a sigh of relief, as the carrier has announced that all post-paid Android smartphones released in 2011 will be getting updated to Gingerbread if they didn't launch with it already. Additionally, last year's Samsung Captivate will be getting the update too.
The HTC Status was released this month with Gingerbread out of the gate, and the Motorola ATRIX 4G just received an update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread last week. The rest of the phones due for the upgrade include the HTC Inspire 4G, LG Phoenix, Pantech Crossover, and the Samsung Infuse 4G. AT&T says that HTC Inspire 4G owners can expect the update to show up in a matter of weeks.
