Report : Apple will unveil its next iPhone on Oct. 4

An Apple event next week? Not so fast. According to All Things D, Cupertino will unveil its next iPhone on Oct. 4.

New CEO Tim Cook will do the honors, ATD said, citing sources "close to the situation." The blog does say, however, that "Apple could certainly change its plans anytime."

Going by past releases, that would put a new iPhone on store shelves by mid-October, which follows previous ATD reports of an October launch.

Samsung Galaxy S II VS iPhone 4

Samsung on Sunday confirmed that it will be showing an LTE version of the Galaxy S II smartphone, alone with an LTE Galaxy Tab 8.9, at the IFA show in Berlin this week.
The original Samsung Galaxy S II is widely considered to be the closest competitor to Apple's iPhone 4. Support for the high-speed 4G LTE network means the Galaxy S II will have an automatic leg up on the competition, running at speeds that are two to three times faster than the iPhone 4, which is a 3G device.

Vonage app : pay for calls via iTunes

iOS device owners can now make international calls and pay for them through iTunes courtesy of a new app from Vonage.
Released yesterday, the free Time to Call app is geared toward people who need to make quick calls around the world. The app lets iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch owners make voice over Internet Protocol calls of up to 15 minutes to any one of more than 190 different countries.
And instead of dealing with Vonage or another carrier for billing, users pay for their calls via their iTunes accounts. So the service is accessible to any Apple iOS device owner, including non-Vonage customers.

11 Best Copied Features in iOS 5 Which May Power iPhone 5 and iPad 2

Google Inc, the Mountain View-based multinational public corporation took over the Android Inc in 2005 and has led the Android platform to scale new heights as Android has become the best selling platform world-wide in 2011.
Meanwhile, Apple has had its share of success with its innovative approach in the form of iPhone and iPad. While Apple was proud to have reinvented the smartphone, iPhone lagged behind the competition in the market to regain the ground. The competition in smartphone market has generated a lot of innovation and quite many important features found in the iPhone today started first with Android. What Windows did to Mac OS in the 1980 seems a way forward as Android is expected to do it more convincingly to iOS in coming days.
Usually the notion goes that Apple innovates and everyone else copies, but the recent unveiling of iOS 5 shows a different truth altogether. There are quite a few features that are directly copied from Android to iOS 5. Here is a look at the cool features that already existed in Android phones before it came to iPhone.

Pent up iPhone 5 demand makes Droid Bionic, X2 bystanders in late 2011

Twitter users are aware of the popular lead-in “that awkward moment” which often surfaces as users share their own. With the pent up demand for the late arriving iPhone 5 at stratospheric levels according to multiple independent surveys, the smartphone equivalent for the second half of 2011 could end up reading “That awkward moment when Verizon brings the Droid Bionic and Droid X2 to market as mere bystanders and no one cares, not even Verizon itself.” The carrier’s CEO is on record as stating that its growth hopes are tied to the iPhone 5 launch, with no mention of its own in-house Droid phones in the same breath. That’s because Verizon appears to already know what has been confirmed independently: the public wants the iPhone 5, before it even knows what the iPhone 5 is.

Smartphones 28 % of global market this year

More than 420 million smartphones will be sold worldwide this year, and will account for 28 percent of all cellphone sales, IMS Research says.
Among the reasons for the growth, IMS says: More affordable smartphones coming on the market. By 2016, the firm expects global smartphone sales will reach 1 billion devices, largely because of more affordable, entry-level handsets.
Apple's iPhone, while not entry-level — although such a version has been bandied about — did account for 19 percent of global smartphone sales in the first quarter of this year, compared to 16 percent in the first quarter of 2010, IMS said.

How To Get The Hidden Facebook For iPad From Inside The iPhone App

Facebook iPad app 'hidden' in iPhone code

Facebook's long-awaited iPad app might actually be hidden in the company's latest iPhone app update, TechCrunch is reporting.
According to the blog, Facebook's latest update to its iPhone app, version 3.4.4, includes executable code that allows users with jailbroken iPads to access and use the social network's full, native tablet application.
A Facebook iPad app topped the wish lists of the social network's users for quite some time. The company currently offers full-featured smartphone applications across several different operating systems, including iOS and Android, but iPad owners need to access Facebook from their Safari browser.
